Bollywood is one of the largest centres of film production worldwide. Having a rich and diverse history, it has held a soft corner in every Indian’s heart since its very beginning.
Bollywood has many actors who have contributed to cinema notably. Through movies and shows, these actors have conquered our minds and souls completely! What makes Bollywood even greater are the actors it has gifted the world with.
There are countless actors who may or may not be the main lead, often do not get the recognition they deserve. Even after being supremely talented, they go unnoticed due to less attention. These underrated actors and actresses surely need more recognition by moviegoers.
By the end of this article, you will see some of our favourite actors whose actual names you might not know, but their talent shines brighter than that. So let us have a look at these gems who definitely deserve more limelight than they get!
Jaideep Ahlawat: He is one of the faces from movies like Raazi (2018), Raees (2017) and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) but most of us don’t know him by his name. He graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune in 2008. Apart from the superhit movies mentioned above, we have also witnessed him in Aakrosh (2010), Rockstar (2011), Khatta Meetha (2010) and Commando (2013).
As a natural actor, his acting seems effortless. He does a great job at projecting the character and making an intense impression. That is why he is often noticed in serious roles. While portraying a character, he makes sure that people forget the original him and just remain stuck to the person he is playing. That is what makes him one of the finest actors out there.
He recently bagged the Filmfare Best Actor (Drama Series) for his exceptional work in Paatal Lok that aired on Amazon Prime. Jaideep Ahlawat, possessing such brilliance and talent is still very underrated. He deserves to be known much more so that people can enjoy more of his work and skill.
Sayani Gupta: Still a fresh face in the industry, Sayani Gupta has many years to cover before being classified as an underrated star. However, looking at the share of fame and limelight showered upon other new actresses in the era, it is quite an injustice to Sayani. That is because she has been proving her acting excellence over and over again.
She is the face in Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15, Shonali Bose’s Margarita With A Straw with Kalki Koechlin, Leena Yadav’s feminist narrative Parched and more. She was recently seen in an Amazon original series, Four More Shots Please which was much discussed by the youth. Her breakout film Axone was also released recently.
There are many characters played by her that distinguish her from the other actors in this era. Let us not forget how gracefully she pulled off playing a 14-year-old in Jagga Jasoos (2017)! Sayani chooses her irreverent and diverse scripts for the way it encourages awareness and subtle appeal for a more varied idea against cultural stereotypes.
Despite being the bundle of talent that she is, she has not yet gotten her fair share of the limelight like other big names in the industry. Many more viewers need to watch and recognize her amazingness for her to get all that she is worth. And once they do, there is no option but to fall in love with her acting.
Randeep Hooda: We remember this face from the movie Highway (2014), playing the role of Mahabir alongside Alia Bhatt. He delivered an exceptional performance in that movie and received the love of the audience. He had a great beginning with Monsoon Wedding by Mira Nair which was nominated for the Oscars. However, he did not become a familiar face until his role in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.
The actor started receiving recognition after that character. He went on to portray several critically acclaimed roles after that. The films’, Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster, Jannat 2, Jism 2, Murder 3, John Day, Ru Ba Ru, Sarbjit, Sultan, Baaghi 2, etc. are some of his famous works which have not gone as appreciated as they should have. He has been seen recently in famous movies like Love Aaj Kal 2 and Radhe. However, viewers wish to see much more of him in the coming years.
Despite being an actor with unbelievable talent, Randeep Hooda stands underrated to date. Critically refined acting and versatile presentation of characters are what he does best. This gem definitely deserves to be much more recognised and valued in the industry as his fair share of fame and love from cinema lovers!
Konkona Sen Sharma: She mesmerised everyone in Wake Up Sid (2009). A simple, charming and authentic girl that is loved by everyone. We all have this image of hers in our minds and we adore it.
She is a respected actress and the daughter of the celebrated actress Aparna Sen. Konkona has delivered some amazingly memorable performances in Life in a Metro (2007), Page 3 (2005), Mr and Mrs Iyer (2002) and Omkara (2006). She even bagged some awards on this journey.
Film critic Nikhat Kazmi of Times of India once wrote, “The highpoint of the film are its performances, Konkona is a complete natural before the camera.” Many have praised her performance, but her kind of brilliance has to have a lot more appreciation.
Born in New Delhi and staying in Mumbai, she has done multiple roles but her work is hugely unrecognized to date. Her commercial success does not stand at par with her talent. Konkona is a simply beautiful actress and deserves to taste stardom in much bigger amounts.
Arjun Rampal: Despite some mind-blowing portrayals that should have received critical acclaim, Arjun Rampal’s career has been somewhat slower in pace. He has not really gotten his due yet in Bollywood despite being deserving. Arjun always manages to own the screen space with his subtle, yet impactful performances.
With roles like that of a politician in Raajneeti (2010), an introverted demeanour in Rock On!! (2008), a police inspector in Kahaani 2 (2016) and a suave CEO in Inkaar (2013), he never failed to stun us with his work. And how can we forget the negative role from Om Shaanti Om (2007)! His performance embellished the whole movie.
Possessing a deep, baritone voice, a stunning personality and intense skills, Arjun Rampal has given us several examples of his prowess. Arjun Rampal has been getting better and better with time just like fine wine. This top skilled performer is worthy of more limelight than what he’s gotten yet!
