The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the only exam conducted to enter Undergraduate Courses in Medical Colleges across India. The exam is conducted centrally by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and occurs at different centres spread throughout the country. This is a crucial examination for all medical aspirants, and hence obtaining the correct information about the exam is extremely important.
The last date for registration for NEET 2022 is May 6, 2022, as per the official website. The NEET-UG 2022 exam will be conducted in 543 cities within the country and 14 cities abroad. The date of the examination is July 17, 2022. This year, the exam will be conducted offline, i.e., using pen and paper. The admit cards for NEET-UG 2022 will be available for download on the official website after the correction window. It is expected to be available in the last week of May or the first week of June 2022.
NEET UG 2022 Exam Pattern
With the return to the offline mode of examination after two years, the NEET-UG 2022 exam pattern guidelines are available on the official website. The exam will test the students in 4 subjects – Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. The paper will be divided into four sections corresponding to these subjects.
Each Section will further have two subsections, as described below.
- Section A: This section will contain 35 questions from the topics mentioned in the NEET-UG 2022 syllabus for the specific subject. All questions in this section will be mandatory.
- Section B: This section will contain 15 questions on the topics covered in the NEET 2022 Syllabus. The students can choose to answer any 10 questions from this section.
Thus, the student is expected to answer 35+10 = 45 questions for every subject. The comprehensive exam will have 50 questions for each section, i.e., 200 questions. The students need to attempt a maximum of 180 questions.
The total time duration of the exam will be 200 minutes (3 hours and 20 minutes). The questions will be multiple-choice based, and the aspirants are expected to answer with the correct choice. The marking scheme for the question paper will be as follows.
- For each correct answer- (+4) marks
- For each incorrect answer- (-1) marks.
Thus, overall, the aspirants need to be mindful of the time and accuracy of the answers, especially since there is a negative marking for incorrect answers.
